Leavenworth, Kan. – Having lost back to back games at home in gut wrenching fashion, the McPherson College men's basketball went on the road on Monday night looking for a little redemption. Unfortunately it turned out to be another tough night for the Bulldogs, especially on the offensive floor, as they were defeated by the University of St. Mary Spires 85-58.

The Bulldogs shot 38% from the floor, making 23 of the 60 attempts, but they were just 4 of 21 from beyond the three point arc. They shot it well from the free throw line, but they just didn't get there that often against the Spires. They wound up attempting only 10 shots from the charity stripe, making 8 of them. The Spires on the other hand, were "lights out" in their home gym. They finished the game shooting 52% from the floor, and 33% from three point land.

The Bulldogs kept the game close through the first 13 minutes and change. They trailed by only 6 (31-25), with 6:38 remaining in the opening half. From there though, the Spires closed out the half on a 22-4 run to take a 24 point lead (53-29), in to the halftime intermission.

The Bulldogs scored 7 of the first 9 points of the second half to trim the lead to 19, but that would be as close as they would get. The Spires' biggest lead of the game would be 32, coming with 3:54 remaining in the game, but the Bulldogs would trim it back down to 27 as the clock hit zeros.

Lual Magot (Jr. Tucson, Ariz.) was the second leading scoring in the game, and the Bulldogs' leading scorer with 18. Only one other Bulldog finished in double figures, and that was Frederick Watts II (So. Houston, Texas) with 13.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 10-18 overall, and 6-17 in the KCAC. They will get one last chance to finish their season on a high note, playing their final game at home on Saturday against the Bethel College Threshers. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start, and between games, they will honor their four seniors, Careino Gurley (Minneapolis, Minn.), Taylor Ellison (Tulsa, Okla.), Justin Wiltfong (Stockton, Kan.), and Louis Parker III (Midwest City, Okla.).

MC (58) – Magot (18), Watts (13), Oxford (7), Munsen (6), Rivers (5), Ellison (5), Gurley (2), Hightower (2).
