Bulldogs Post Two Wins on Day Two of the KCAC Fall Fling

Hutchinson, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team wrapped up the 2019 KCAC Fall Fling with a pair of wins over William Penn University (Iowa) and Randall University (Okla.). The Bulldogs picked up where they left off on Friday, defeating the WPU Statesmen in four sets 25-22, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, and then swept the RU Saints in the night cap 25-14, 25-16, 25-21.

Statistical highlights from the match against WPU included:
  • Sydney Burton (Jr. Stillwell, Kan.) led the team in hitting percentage, 9/2/16/.438
  • Riley Bradbury (Jr. Castle Rock, Colo.) led the Bulldog hitters with 14 kills.
  • The Bulldogs had 10 service aces, 3 each from Kaitlyn Heinis (Jr. Oviedo, Fla.) and Jamie Siess (Sr. Topeka, Kan.)
  • Three players with double digit dig totals: Bradbury (10), Siess (11), and Reven Bradbury (Jr. Castle Rock, Colo.) [12].
In the finale, the Saints were definitely outmatched, but they gave the Bulldogs a great match, making them work for every point. In the end, the Bulldogs had too much fire power and were able to secure the sweep, moving them to 3-1 on the season.

Highlights included:
  • 29 assists for Heinis
  • Four players, Burton, Riley Bradbury, and Trisha Mathewson (So. Axtell, Kan.), all had hitting percentages greater than .400
  • Bradbury (13) and Matthewson (10), had double digit kill totals.
  • The Bulldogs recorded six more aces as a team, led by Siess with two.
Coach Cahill commented on the two wins saying, "It was a great way to cap off our first weekend. We battled through adversity, played consistent volleyball, and we were rewarded for it."

The Bulldogs will take their 3-1 record on the road next weekend when they travel north to Bellevue, Nebraska, to take part in the gosarpy.com Labor Day classic hosted by Bellevue University. The Bulldogs will take on Doane College (Neb.) and Montana Tech on Friday, and then play Lawrence Tech (Mich.) and Peru State College (Neb.) on Saturday.
