McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men's soccer team extended their current winning streak to six games, with a 1-0 victory over the Tabor College Bluejays on Tuesday night at Paul Family Field.

The Bulldogs dominated possession of the ball from the first whistle, but the Bluejays had a bunker mentality, sitting back and hoping for a chance to counter attack off a Bulldog miscue, which made it difficult for the Bulldogs to find scoring opportunities. The Bulldogs outshot the visitors 21 to 3, and had a 10 to 1 advantage in cornerkicks, but because of the Bluejays' style of play, they found themselves clinging to a precarious one goal lead for most of the game.

The lone goal of the game came with 10 minutes remaining in the opening half. Antione Detervarnier (So. Brugge, Belgium), had just subbed on a few minutes prior. He took the ball off the foot of a Bluejay defender, took a touch to his left and then rifled a ball with his left foot into the back of the net, near post, upper ninety.

The Bulldog had another good look at net, late in the second half. Navid Istanbullu (Sr. Bremen, Germany) headed a ball toward goal, but it ricocheted off of the near post. On the rebound, Marcus Fernandes (Sr. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had a side volley that the Bluejay goal keeper made a brilliant save on, to keep the score at 1-0.

"Tonight we were really able to control the game with our possession", commented Bulldog head coach Doug Quint. "We just need to continue to work on our sharpness in the final third." He added, "With them sitting in defensively, we really had a hard time finding their gaps with our movements. We certainly had a couple of real good moments where we created a few chances that hit the bar but we need to generate more of those."

The Bulldogs have the upcoming weekend off, but will return to the pitch on November 1st, putting their 6 game winning streak on the line, at home against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 pm.
