McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men's and women's basketball teams will open up KCAC play tonight in the friendly confines of the McPherson Sport Center. The Bulldogs will host Avila University with the women tipping off at 6:00 pm followed by the men at 8:00 pm.
Both Bulldog teams have started the season 2-0 in their limited non-conference season with the women defeating crosstown rival Central Christian College 77-58 on the road, and then coming home on Saturday and defeating Barclay College 107-83. For the men, this will also be their home opener. They went on the road for their first two games defeating Manhattan Christian College 87-75 in their season opener, then wrapped up the week with a huge win at Columbia College 86-81.
The Bulldog women open up KCAC play against an Avila Eagle squad that played just one non-conference game, a 79-66 win on the road over Baptist Bible College. A season ago, the Eagles went 16-11 in the regular season and were 16-8 in KCAC play. They were tied for 4th in the KCAC standings heading into the conference tournament. They got hot at the right time, and made a run in the tournament, knocking off Sterling College, the regular season champs, in the finals 67-65 to punch their ticket to the big dance. The Bulldogs and Eagles met twice last season, with the Eagles sweeping the series, winning in Kansas City 69-57 and then at the Sport Center 67-65.
