McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in KCAC play with a 74-60 win at home against the Avila University (Mo.) Eagles.

The Bulldog women nearly led the game wire to wire, trailing just once at the start of the 1st quarter, and then again midway through the 3rd quarter.

They had double digit leads at multiple times in the first half and led at the break 33-27. Sloppy play in the third quarter saw the lead evaporate, but steals on three consecutive possessions late in the period allowed the Bulldogs to extend their lead out to seven points, 53-46 heading into the final period. The Bulldogs pulled away late in the 4th quarter to win by a comfortable 14 point margin.

Coach Quote

"First KCAC game of the year and in conference play every win is a good win. It was a sloppy game really by both teams. Mattie Morgan is an excellent player and we wanted to make it difficult on her. I thought KU [Kenaja Upchurch], Kia [Ja'Kia Wells], and Vic ]Victoria Ates] did a good job on her. Avila packed the paint and made it tough for Brittany to work, but I thought Dy'mond [McElrath] and Maison [Moseley] both stepped up and gave us a lift. Off the bench Erika [Diaz] continued to do some good things and Maya [Austin] always gives us good minutes. "
