Fremont, Neb. – The McPherson College men's and women's tennis teams moved to 3-0 on the season, picking up wins on the road against Midland University.
The Bulldog women waltzed to an easy 7-0 victory as the Warriors had only four healthy players available for the match. The Bulldogs swept the two doubles matches with the #1 team of Brittany Zipf (Sr. Rockhampton, Australia) / Erica Paradise (So. Bakersfield, Calif.), winning 6-3, and the #3 team of Vanessa Mundo (Fr. Houston, Texas) / Grace Maxey (Fr. Damascus, Ore.), moved up to the no. 2 line and won easily 6-1.
With a 1-0 lead after doubles, and two more points from default wins at 5 & 6, the Bulldogs shifted their lineup. Below are the scores from the four singles matches played.
In the men's dual, the Bulldogs got a much tougher match than they expected from a much improved Midland side, outlasting the Warriors 5-2 in a four and a half hour dual. The Bulldogs won the doubles point, picking up wins from the #1 team of Jacob Turley (Jr. Milton Keynes, England) / Martin Millos (Fr. Vigo, Spain), 6-4, and from the #2 team of Julien Bodin (Jr. Cartagena, Spain) / Nicolas Wahl (Sr. Koenigstein, Germany), 6-3.
In singles, the Bulldogs needed a little good fortune to come away with the victory. Four of the six matches went the distance, and in three of them, the Bulldogs had to come back from a set down to win in a decisive third set super tie-breaker. The dual was clinched by Millos, who won his match at #5. Below are the singles scores.

Coach Nelson commented on the wins saying, "The women's match was important in that it gave our underclassmen some more experience, which will be important later in the spring when the matches start to get more difficult." Of the men's match he added, "I was proud of the way the guys battled against Midland. They are much better and they gave us a real test. We were down a set in five of the six matches, and rallied to win three of them. It was a very gritty performance."
The Bulldogs get a few weeks off before taking the court again. They will be back in action on March 8, when they host NJCAA powerhouse Seward County at 1 p.m. at the McPherson High School courts.
