Bulldogs Outscore Dordt 25-6 in Saturday Sweep

McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College baseball team bounced back from a lopsided loss in game two on Friday, to sweep Saturday's doubleheader against the Dordt University Defenders.

The Bulldogs never trailed in game one on Saturday, and won easily 17-3. In game two however, the Bulldogs had to come from behind, eventually winning 8-3. Charles Munns (Jr. Roseville, Calif.), got the start in game one, and picked up the win with six strong innings of work. He gave up two runs on four hits, striking out six and walking three.

In the series finale, the Bulldogs gave the ball to Trevor Lott (Fr. Fresno, Calif.). Lott worked the first three innings allowing three runs on three hits. In the fourth inning, the Bulldogs went to their pen and brought in Will Shaw (Sr. Yoncalla, Ore.). Shaw three the next three innings, holding the Defenders scoreless and scattering four hits. The Bulldogs retook the lead with Shaw on the bump, earning him the win.

At the plate, the Bulldogs were on fire scoring 25 runs on 21 hits, including nine that went for extra bases. The Bulldogs hit five homeruns on the day, four of them in the game one. Kyle Lux (Sr. Lewes, Del.) hit back to back homeruns in the opener, followed by James Canar (So. Longmont, Colo.), and Noah Nelson (Jr. Danville, Ill.). In game two, Hunter Robinson (So. Edgewood, Texas) came off the bench and hit a pinch hit bomb. Lux now has eight homeruns in 16 games which puts him in a tie for fourth in the NAIA.

"It was rewarding to see so many new contributors in this series," said Bulldog skipper Bryan Moses. "For the most part, the series was well pitched by the DOGS.  I also admired our ability to come back from multiple deficits."

The Bulldog won the series with Dordt 3-1 and are now 12-4 overall. They will be back on the diamond on Tuesday when they open up KCAC play at home against the Tabor College Bluejays. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Bulldog Park.
