McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team picked up its 13th win of the season on Thursday, knocking off the William Woods University Owls 8-4. The game was part of the tournament hosted by the Bulldogs at Wall Park and Bulldog Park.

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start against the Owls, trailing the visitors by four runs midway through the third inning. In the bottom half of the third, the Bulldog offense finally got things going, tying the game with four runs in their at bat. They went on to add two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure a four run victory.

Katy Wilson (Jr. Princeton, Texas) got the start in the circle against the Owls. She pitched the first four innings, giving up four runs on five hits. She left the game after the fourth inning with the game tied, so she didn't factor into the decision. Instead the win went to Raegan Kleppe (Fr. McKinney, Texas), who pitched the final three innings, holding the Owls scoreless on just one hit.

The Bulldog offense finished the day with eight runs on eight hits, led by Maile Deutsch (Jr. Palmer, Texas), who went 3 for 4  with three doubles, three RBI, and a run scored. Jasmine Curiel (Sr. Corona, Calif.), came off the bench in the fifth inning, and hit a pinch hit double that drove in two runs to give the Bulldogs the lead. It would turn out to be the game winning hit.

Coach Segovia commented on the win saying, "We started off slow, but I am super proud how these kids responded to come from behind and get the win. I just love the effort they give us every day." The win was a huge milestone for Segovia, as it was the 500th win of his career. He reflected on the accomplishment by saying, "I just want to say thank you to every player and assistant coach that has ever been a part of my life. Also my wife for always being my rock. I very blessed and love calling McPherson College home."

The Bulldogs were scheduled to be back at home next week on Wednesday against the Southwestern College Moundbuilder. However, with everything surrounding the covid-19 situation, things are somewhat in flux. The KCAC is expected to release a statement regarding their recommendations for the rest of the spring sport seasons on Friday morning.
