McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College baseball team dropped their third straight game, losing on Sunday to the Ottawa University Braves 18-8.
The Bulldog pitchers, and there were four employed in the loss on Sunday, gave up 25 hits to the Braves, five of them of the extra-base hit variety, leading to 15 earned runs. Garrett Connor (Sr. Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was the starter going two innings and giving up the first six runs on seven hits. Out of the bullpen were Tyler Norris (R-So. Arvada, Colo.), Gregory Neiger (Jr. Scotts Valley, Calif.), and Jake Herman (Sr. San Diego, Calif.). Each of the guys out of the pen gave up four runs, and combined for 18 hits. The Bulldogs never led in the game, and thus Connor as the starter, was collared with the loss.
Offensively, the Bulldogs scored their eight runs on eight hits, three of them homeruns. Half of the Bulldog hits came off the bats of Trevor Johnson (Jr. San Diego, Calif.), and Kyle Lux (Sr. Lewes, Del.). Johnson was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, while Lux went 2 for 4 with both of his hits finding their way over the outfield fence. The four other hits were singles by Noah Nelson (Jr. Danville, Ill.), Marcus McDaniel (Jr. McPherson, Kan.), and Jakob Shields (Sr. DeSoto, Kan.) and a double by Malik Bond (Jr. Macon, Ga.)
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 16-7 overall, and 4-3 in KCAC games. They will be back on the diamond on Tuesday when they make the short drive over to Light Capitol diamond for a match-up with crosstown rival Central Christian College. First pitch in the single nine inning game Tuesday is set for 3 p.m.
