McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead, in their home opener on Saturday, against the Tabor College Bluejays, but were unable hold, falling to the visitors 3-1.
The Bulldogs, coming off an opening weekend win last week on the road at Sterling, got on the board first on Saturday, scoring in the 18th minute on a cornerkick. Trinity Tovar (Fr. Haslet, Texas), played the ball into the six yard box from the right corner. Meeting the ball there with a perfectly time header was Bianca Bulnes (Sr. Rancho Cordova, Calif.), scoring her second goal of the season.
They would carry the lead through the remainder of the first half, but Tabor answered just a minute and a half into the second half to tie the game at 1. Thirteen minutes later, they struck again, to take the lead, and then added an insurance goal late in the half to finish with a 3-1 advantage.
Christie Silber (Sr. Simi Valley, Calif.) was in goal for the Bulldogs, and finished with four saves.
Coach Olsson summed up his teams' performance saying, "The team continues to work hard and improve in different areas on the field. I'm a bit disappointed by the final score line as I thought it was much closer played. It was nice to see Bianca with her second goal of the season coming off a well executed corner kick. It's something we have emphasized this year and we have been very dangerous on. Being as young as we are, this season is a work in progress and will be exciting to see as they grow."
Next weekend, the Bulldogs will be back on the road again, this time heading south to Wichita, Kansas for a Saturday match with the Friends University Falcons. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 pm.
