Sterling, Kan. – It wasn't the start to the season that the McPherson College men's soccer team was hoping for when they went on the road to take on the Sterling College Warriors on Saturday. The Bulldogs were shutout on the scoreboard, losing to the Warriors 2-0, to fall to 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The Bulldogs just couldn't get anything going offensively, as they managed just nine total shots in the game, and only put three of those shots on goal. The Warriors on the other hand had 12 total shots with 10 of them on goal. Colby Swift (So. Sedgwick, Kan.), picked up the loss in goal for the Bulldogs, stopping eight of the 10 shots he faced.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead into the halftime intermission, scoring in the 27th minute of the game. They went down a man in the 67th minute when one of their players was shown a red card by the referee. Despite the disadvantage of playing with one less player, they managed to go up 2-0 on the Bulldogs, scoring in the 77th minute of action.
The Bulldogs will try and regroup before next weekend when they host University of Science and Arts Oklahoma on the turf at McPherson Stadium / Paul Family Field. Game time text Saturday is set for 2:00 pm.
