McPherson, Kan. The McPherson College softball team earned a split in Wednesday afternoon against the Dakota Wesleyan University Tigers, moving their record to 7-7 on the season.
With winds blowing out to left field at over 30 mph, the hitters had a lot of fun, the pitchers not so much. When the dust had settled on the double header there were a total of 42 runs scored, on 74 hits.
In game one, the Bulldogs were edged by the Tigers 12-11. The Tigers jumped out early, and stayed in front until the Bulldogs tied the game in the sixth inning at 11. The Tigers scored one in the seventh, but the Bulldog rally came up short. Katy Wilson was in the circle for the Bulldogs and collared the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits.
In game two, the Tigers again jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. An inning later, the Bulldogs put up six runs to take the lead. They led 9-7 going into the final inning. The Tigers scored a pair of runs in their half of the seventh to tie the game setting up a dramatic final at bat for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs. Jenna Christensen hit the first pitch she saw in the at bat up the middle for a walk-off single scoring Aubree Beggs from third, giving the Bulldogs a 10-9 victory. Reagan Kleppe went the distance for the Bulldogs in the circle, picking up the win.
