Olathe, Kan. – The McPherson College men's soccer team went on the road on Saturday, and made a statement, shutting out the 17th ranked NAIA team in the nation. The Bulldogs squared off against the Mid-America Nazarene University Pioneers, one of the top teams in the Heart of America Conference.

The Bulldogs scored a goal in each half, and the defense came away with a clean sheet, moving to 8-2-3 on the season with a 2-0 victory over the Pioneers.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the 29th minute of action when Sean Thomson found the back of the net on an assist from Marcus Fernandes. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Bulldogs came out of the intermission, and scored again, ten minutes into the frame. This time it was senior, Carlos Reyna, receiving a pass from fellow senior Anthony Bernal.

For the remaining 35 minutes, the defense played masterfully, and kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard. Once again, the Bulldogs platooned at the goal keeper position. Jose Alonso played in the first half. He faced one shot on goal and picked up the save. In the second half, Colby Swift was between the pipes. He stared down to Pioneer shots on goal, stopping them both.

"Great team performance today," said Bulldog head coach Doug Quint. "Our defensive work rate was good for 90 minutes.  We beat a good team at a tough place to play."

The Bulldogs get another tough opponent next weekend when they host the Benedictine College Ravens at Paul Family Field on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
