McPherson, Kan. – Battling fatigue, and adverse elements, the McPherson College baseball team wrapped up their three game series with Sterling College on Monday afternoon with a 4-0 win at Bulldog Park.
Playing their fourth game in as many days, and dealing with a stiff north wind and falling temps, the Bulldogs ground out a tough 4-0 win, their 32nd of the season. Three of the Bulldogs four runs came in the bottom of the third inning. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a squeeze bunt by Jake Pearson that scored Jonah Shabry from third.
Coming off his first start of the season six days ago at Tabor, Drake Miller got his second start against the Warriors, and as the kids say, he "shoved". He went seven and a third, holding the Warriors scoreless on   five hits. He had great stuff all day, finishing with ten strikeouts and only two walks. Miller's day ended with one out in the eighth. The Bulldogs went to their bullpen and called on Charles Munns. The hard throwing Munns picked up the save, putting in an inning and two-thirds of work, allowing just one hit and recording one strikeout.
Offensively, the Bulldogs pounded out 11 hits, but left 10 runners stranded on base resulting in just four runs scored, but it was enough as the pitchers did their work. Three of the Bulldogs' 11 hits went for extra bases, including doubles by Shabry and Noah Nelson, and a triple by Kyle Lux. Three Bulldogs recorded multiple hits led by Lux who was 2 for 3. Trevor Johnson went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and an RBI, and Nelson finished 2 for 5 with a run scored.
"Big-time performance today from Drake Miller," commented Coach Moses. "Our pitching really stepped up. You dig those types of performances in mid weeks. Looking forward to the weekend."
The win moves the Bulldogs to 20-7 in the KCAC and sole possession of second place in the conference standings. They are a game up in the win column on the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, who they will host this weekend in a three game series beginning on Saturday.
