Great Bend, Kan. – The McPherson College baseball team opened up the KCAC conference tournament with a loss to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes 12-3.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick start, recording four of their nine hits, and scoring all three of their runs in the top of the first inning. From there things didn't go well for the Bulldogs. They finished with five more hits, but were unable to push across any more runs, leaving nine runners stranded on base.
Kris Perez and James Canar, led the Bulldog offense each going 2 for 4. Both of Perez' hits were doubles, and he scored a run, while Canar hit two singles, scored a run and drove in another.
On the mound, Alex Escobar and Drake Miller each threw four innings. Escobar got the start and collared the loss, allowing nine runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Miller surrendered three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
The KCAC tournament bracket is strange. They only allow six team into the field, and the #1 team plays the #6, the #2 plays the #5, and the #3 and #4 teams match up. The Bulldogs were seeded #4, and with Wednesday evening's loss, they now have to play the #1 seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles in an elimination game on Thursday at 3:00 pm.
