McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team was back at home on Tuesday, hosting the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes out at Bulldog Park. In gusty winds, the Bulldogs and Coyotes split the doubleheader with the visitors winning game one, 3-2, but the Bulldogs bouncing back to take game two, 11-3 in six innings.

In game one, there were 16 total hits, nine for the Coyotes and seven for the Bulldogs, but both teams struggled to string multiple hits together and drive in runners when in scoring position. In the end, the Bulldog managed only two runs from their seven hits. The Bulldog offense was paced by Brandy Trengove, Summer Garcia, and Amanda Ambrosy who all went 2 for 3. Trengove and Ambrosy had the only extra base hits, both of them doubles.

Raegan Kleppe was in the circle for the Bulldogs against the Coyotes in game one and took the loss. She pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on nine hits with ten strikeouts and two walks.

In game two, things turned around for the Bulldogs. The Coyotes managed 10 hits, but still had a hard getting those timely hits with runners on base. The Bulldogs solved that problem, scoring 11 runs on 12 hits with five going for extra bases. Cortez continued to see the ball well, recording two more hits, both of them doubles, in four trips to the plate. Lacy Weaver, Kaylie Norris, and Heidi Fischer also had a pair of hits in game two. Norris and Weaver were 2 for 3 while Fischer was a perfect 2 for 2 with a double, two runs scored, and one RBI.

Jordyn Johnson picked up the win in the circle, moving to 5-6 on the season. She went six innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

Coach Segovia commented on the split saying, "Game one didn't go as plan but proud of the bounce back in game two. We have to get back to work tomorrow for Thursday's game."

With the split, the Bulldogs are now 13-14 overall, and 5-3 in conference play. They have a short turnaround, getting a day off before taking the field again on Thursday, going on the road to play the Friends University Falcons at 5:00 pm in Wichita, Kan.
