McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College Baseball team wrapped up their three game midweek series with the Tabor College Bluejays on Tuesday. With winds in excess of 40 mph, the two teams racked up 19 runs on 34 hits with the Bluejays coming out on top with a 13-6 win to take the series 2-1.

Things started out on a positive note for the Bulldogs. They led the Bluejays 4-1 through four innings and 5-3 after the fifth. In the top of the sixth, the Bluejays broke the game open, scoring nine runs on seven hits including a grand slam. Each team would add a run in the eighth to make the final score 13-6.

On the mound, the Bulldogs used a committee approach, employing seven arms over the course of nine innings. Isaiah Vazquez got the start and worked the first inning and two-thirds. He held the Bluejays scoreless, scattering three hits with four strikeouts and zero walks. After Vasquez, the Bulldogs brought Jace Maptston, Alex Escobar, Nathan Ruble, Noah Carpenter, Rolando Fletes, and Jacob Gilcrease out of the pen. The Bluejays took the lead with Ruble on the mound so he was shackled with the loss.

Offensively, the Bulldogs scored their six runs on 13 hits with five of the 13 going for extra bases, four doubles by Gage Ninness, Caleb Feuerstake, Tony Hyrnkiw, and Jake Pearson and a homerun by Hunter Robinson. Ninness, Feuerstake and Robinson were the only three Bulldogs to record multiple hits.

"Tough end to our midweek series against Tabor," said Coach MacKinnon. "The last couple of games they put it to us pretty good, in all areas of the game. We need to continue to build and regroup for a quick turnaround on Friday and Saturday at York."

The loss drops the Bulldogs 29-9 overall, and 18-5 in KCAC games. They will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to York, Nebraska for a three game series with the York College Panthers. The Bulldogs and Panthers are scheduled for a single nine on Friday then a double header on Saturday.
