Winfield, Kan. – The McPherson College Baseball team wrapped up their weekend series with the Southwestern College Moundbuilders on Sunday with an 11-5 win.
Blake Maddock was on the bump for the game three start, picking up the win and moving to 5-1 on the season. He worked the first five innings of the nine inning game, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. The Bulldogs went to the bull pen for the final four innings. Zach Reynolds and Nathan Ruble each worked a hitless and scoreless inning. Reynolds had two strikeouts while Ruble struck out the side in his appearance. The Bulldogs used Justin Lockey for the final two innings. He gave up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Building on their performance from game two on Friday, the Bulldog offense continued to click. They collectively put up 11 runs on 16 hits, with half of those going for extra bases. Gage Ninness, Caleb Feuerstake, James Canar, and Jake Pearson led the Bulldog charge, each recording three hits. Ninness and Feuerstake did a lot of the damage. They accounted for four of the eight extra base hits and five of the runs scored. Four of the Bulldog extra base hits left the yard, hit by Ninness, Canar, Trevor Johnson and Noah Nelson.
"Although we didn't accomplish our goal this weekend, or get the help we needed, it is still good to go on the road and win another KCAC series," said Bulldog head coach Kyle MacKinnon. "We played solid all weekend, we were just unable to make in-game adjustments offensively in game one, while Southwestern did. We've still put ourselves in a good spot to secure the all important 'bye' for the tournament if we handle our business next weekend."
The win moves the Bulldogs to 35-10 overall, and 24-6 in KCAC play. They will wrap up the regular season this upcoming weekend, hosting the Friends University Falcons in a three game series on Friday and Saturday.
