Hillsboro, Kan. – It was a tough day on the diamond for the McPherson College Baseball team on Tuesday. They dropped their fourth KCAC game of the season, on the road against the Tabor College Bluejays.
The Bluejays came out hot and ran away from the Bulldogs in just seven innings, 11-1. Tabor scored five runs in the third and fourth innings fueled by five homeruns to break the game open. The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the fourth innings, scoring on a wild pitch, but that would be their only run scored the rest of the way.
Three Bulldogs saw action on the mound, with Drake Miller getting the start, and taking the loss. He went two and two-thirds allowing five runs on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk. Noah Carpenter and Rolando Fletes were the other two Bulldog pitchers to see action out of the bullpen.
Offensively, it was tough sledding for the Bulldog hitters. There were many quality at bats, but many resulted in balls driven right at Tabor defenders. In all they finished with five hits, led by Trevor Johnson who was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 26-8 overall, and 15-4 in KCAC play. They find themselves in a three way tie for second place in the conference standings with Tabor, and the Friends University Falcons, who all a game behind the Ottawa University Braves. Next up for the Bulldogs is a three game series this weekend with the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles at Bulldog Park. The Bulldogs and Eagles will meet on Friday at 2:00 pm, to open the series, then wrap it up with a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 pm.
