Bulldogs Sweep Bethel on the Road

North Newton, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team went on the road again on Tuesday afternoon, squaring off against the Bethel College Threshers. Having split their last four games in last weeks' action, the Bulldog brought out their brooms, and started off this week by sweeping the Threshers.

In the series opener, the Bulldogs lead 7-0 with two outs in the seventh inning before the Threshers found their offense and scored four runs. The Bulldogs were able to eventually get the final out, taking game one, 7-4.

Raegan Kleppe was in the circle for the Bulldogs in game one. She picked up the win, improving her record to 6-7 on the year by going the distance and allowing four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Kleppe got plenty of run support from the offense. The Bulldog batters finished with nine hits leading to seven runs, with two of the nine hits going for extra bases. Four Bulldogs recorded multiple hits including 2 for 4 performances from Sierra Cortez and Lacy Weaver, and 2 of 3 performances from Summer Garcia and Nichole Martinez. The two Bulldog extra base hits were a double from Cortez, and a triple from Brandy Trengove.

In the night cap, the Bulldogs did all they needed to do in the first two innings. They scored two runs in the first and added another in the second, and then the defense shut the Threshers out leading to a 3-0 win for the MC ladies.

Jordyn Johnson was lights out for the Bulldogs in the circle in game two. She was nearly unhittable, shutting out the Threshers and scattering a total of three hits. She finished with six strikeouts and two walks on her way to her eighth win of the season.

The Bulldog offense did all their scoring in the first two innings, but finished with 11 total hits. Cortez, Trengove, Garcia, and Mackenzie Egan all recorded multiple hits. Cortez had the only extra-base hit, a double in the top of the first. Trengove, Egan and Kaylie Norris each drove in a run.

Coach Segovia was pleased with the Bulldogs' effort, he said, "Any time you can go on the road and get two conference wins it's a great day. Proud of the team and we will continue to work hard and get ready for Saturday."

The sweep, puts the Bulldogs back over .500 for the season at 16-15 and they move to 8-4 in KCAC play. They have a big test coming up this weekend as they go back on the road to take on intra-county rival Bethany College, in Lindsborg. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm on Saturday.
