Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Bulldogs Fall to Union at Nationals

Mobile, Ala. – The Bulldog men's tennis teams' season came to an end on Tuesday with a 4-0 loss to Union College (Kentucky) in the first round of the NAIA National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center, in Mobile, Alabama.

The Bulldogs came up just short in the doubles portion of the dual, winning 6-2 on the no. 2 line, but falling at no. 1 and no. 3 both in tie breaks 7-4 to surrender the doubles point.

As the singles portion of the dual began, Union College, leading 1-0, continued to apply the pressure. The Bulldogs dropped the first set in five of the six singles matches, with Michael Beltran at no. 1, the lone Bulldog to win a set. Trey Murphy was just about ready to even his match at a set apiece at no. 4, but the match was called before he got the chance. Union picked up quick wins at no. 2, no. 3, and no. 6 to close out the Bulldogs 4-0.

Coach President summed things up by saying, "What a great group of guys! We were very close to securing the doubles point! But just came up a little short! We have a pretty young team and if we're here with them, we are excited to see where we will be in the next couple years! Proud of this group of not just how they played today, but how they played throughout the season! We are planning to be here again soon!"

With the final loss, the Bulldogs wrap up the season at 14-2 overall. They lose only one player to graduation this year, doubles specialist Jakob Komel.
