Great Bend, Kan. – The McPherson College Baseball team's run at a KCAC tournament championship came to an end on Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
It was a tough day for the Bulldogs offensively and defensively against the Coyotes. Offensively the Bulldog hitters managed to push across only two runs fueled by six hits. Trevor Johnson led the Bulldog offense with a 2 for 3 performance that included a solo homerun. Defensively, the Bulldogs had a pair of miscues that ultimately led directly to two of the Coyote runs.
On the mound for the Bulldogs to start the contest was Isaiah Vazquez. He went six and a third, giving up four runs, two of the earned, on five hits. He finished with seven strikeouts and three walks. Jacob Gilcrease came out of the bullpen with one out in the seventh, giving up just one hit and finishing with three strikeouts and no walks.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 39-12 on the season. Now the Bulldogs will now have to wait to see if they will get the nod from the NAIA to attend an opening round regional. The announcement should come sometime next Thursday.
