LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Six players scored in double figures Thursday (Jan. 26) as the University of Saint Mary Spires knocked off the McPherson College Bulldogs 80-67 in Leavenworth, Kan.
The Bulldogs opened with a 13-7 run, but the Spires quickly gained the lead scoring seven unanswered points.
Yaniel Vidal drilled a three to tie the ball game at 16 apiece with 11:31 left in the first half, then Antonio Watson joined in to put the Bulldogs on top 21-18.
But the Spires answered with a triple of their own to spark an 11-2 burst to snatch the momentum. The Spires would hold a 36-28 lead at the break.
Again the Bulldogs started quickly, using a pair of baskets by Charles Snyder, followed by another three by Hardaway to pull within three early in the second frame. But the Spires had an answer for that, taking control with a 12-3 run.
Curtis Rose paced the Bulldogs (11-11, 6-10 KCAC) with 13 points, while Snyder added 12 points. Owen Braxmeyer finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Quentin Williams scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Spires (6-15, 2-13 KCAC), while Deshaud St. Martin finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
The Bulldogs return to the Sports Center as they play host to the Sterling College Warriors on Saturday (Jan. 28). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
