ATCHISON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs opened their season with a 70-61 win over the Benedictine College Ravens in Atchison, Kan. The Bulldogs have now won six straight season-openers.
The Bulldogs never trailed, jumping out to a 20-9 advantage. MC then ballooned their lead to 46-25 at the break.
The Ravens closed the gap midway through the second half, using an 11-0 burst to cut the Bulldog lead to 59-50. The lead was trimmed to eight points twice, but key free throws by Owen Braxmeyer and Curtis Rose iced the game.
Collin Storr led the Bulldogs offensively with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, and pulled down five rebounds. Rose added 13 points and six boards, while Braxmeyer finished with 10 points, four assists and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Brycen LaRue had a game-high 24 points for the Ravens, while Braden Belt added 12 points.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 31) as they travel to Goodwell, Okla., to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m.
