KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The McPherson College Bulldogs men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Kansas City, Mo. Saturday (Feb. 4) and fell to NCAA Division II Rockhurst University.
"Going up to Kansas City to play a competitive Division II team was a great way to start our season," head coach Keiran President said. "It was a tough battle for both teams but one to only learn from. Our women played a tough team and put up a good fight. They all played the best they could yesterday, but was just outclassed and outplayed."
On the Men's side, the Hawks nipped the Bulldogs in doubles. Michael Beltran and Martin Millos dropped a close one to Louis Keiner and Josef Truhlar 6-4, then Daniel Marcano and Celien Botlan fell to Semyon Tsyrenov 6-3.
Beltran won in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) over Keiner, then Botlan knocked off Felipe Castellanos (6-2, 4-6, 10-4). But the Hawks won the next three matches.
On the women's side, the Hawks swept doubles, then dropped the six singles matches.
"We have some stuff we need to work on as a team that will help up going into our next matches and the rest of the season," President said. "We have a bunch of fighters who are hungry to have a great season."
The Bulldogs travel to Nebraska to take on (RV) Midland and Doane on Feb. 25-26.
