LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs added two more to the win column Saturday (Apr. 1), taking down the University of Saint Mary 15-4 and 13-4 in Leavenworth, Kan.
The Bulldogs' offense was red-hot from the beginning, scoring once in the first, four in the second, and two more in the third to take a 7-0 lead.
Saint Mary trimmed the lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the third, but the Bulldogs weren't done yet.
A sacrifice fly by Andres Artola, an RBI double by Antonio Fernandez, and an RBI single by Hunter Robinson pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 10-3.
The Spires put one more on the board in the seventh, then a double by Dawson Walters in the ninth brought two to the plate. Gage Ninness capped the victory with a three-run blast in the top of the ninth.
Blake Maddock got the start for the Bulldogs and threw eight innings, striking out three batters.
Robinson gave the Bulldogs an early lead in game two with an RBI single, but a three-run second inning by the Spires, gave them a brief lead.
The Bulldogs quickly tied the game in the next half-inning, then an RBI single by Walters in the fifth gave the Bulldogs a lead they would not relinquish. Kurt Golubski tacked on two more that same inning making it a 7-3 lead.
The Bulldogs iced the game with six runs in the sixth inning.
Alex Escobar threw a complete game, striking out four batters and allowing just six hits.
The teams will complete the three-game set tomorrow (Apr. 2), with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
