McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College women's soccer program kicks off another season this evening (Aug. 18) as they play a road game against crosstown rival Central Christian.
"We've had so much youth in the past and we finally have some experience," head coach Mark Olson said as he enters his seventh season in charge.
The Bulldogs return nearly 62 percent of their scoring from a season ago, including their top two goalscorers, Caitlin Buendia and Emily Segura. Buendia led the team with six goals and five assists and finished with a team-best 20 shots-on-goal. Segura added four goals and one assist in her junior campaign.
Defensively, the Bulldogs bring back goalkeeper Lauren Kunda and defender Kelcie Turner. Kunda made nine starts in goal last season, posting a 2.76 GAA, while Turner anchored the defense by starting every game in 2022.
In addition to the returners, Olson is excited about the incoming freshman class.
"We have five incoming freshmen in Elizabeth Scheuerman, Haliegh Worthy, Courtney Wickham, Allyson Harrison, and Andrea Salas," Olson said. "They have fit in well with the returners, and I am excited to see how they contribute to the team."
The Bulldogs' home opener is slated for Sep. 9 against Southwestern Christian, while the conference opener is the following Wednesday (Sep. 13) at Tabor.
