McPHERSON, Kan. — Despite dropping the first set, the Bulldogs bounced back and took care of business against the University of Saint Mary Spires with a 3-1 win on Saturday (Nov. 2) to extend their incredible winstreak to 13 games.
The Bulldogs were looking like they were going to roll in set one, taking a 21-14 lead. The Spires then began to mound the comeback. Saint Mary rattled off eight of the next nine rally points to tie the match up at 22. The Spires held on to complete the comeback and win set one, 26-24 to secure a 1-0 match advantage.
After the collapse in set one, the Bulldogs decided to put the hammer down in set two. After falling behind 2-0, MC scored six straight rally points to take the lead which they held to the very end of the set. MC took the set, 25-15, and tied the match up at one set a piece.
Saint Mary started set three hot, taking the early 6-4 lead. Much like the previous set, the Bulldogs stormed ahead by scoring seven straight rally points to once again take command. MC rolled their way to a 2-1 match lead, winning the set 25-19.
Set three saw the Spires fight to keep the set close, but the Bulldogs snuffed out any chance at a repeat of the first set. MC secured the victory with a 25-21 Set Win.
Daniela Jimenez tallied 16 kills on the day while
Raegan Murphy once again shined with 26 assists.
The Bulldogs hit the road for their next game as they face off against Tabor College on Wednesday, November 6 is set for a 7:00 p.m. match.
