Men’s Basketball Picks up First Conference Win

McPHERSON, Kan. — Collin Storr exploded for a career-high 34 points Wednesday night (Dec. 11) to lift McPherson College to its first KCAC win of the season, knocking off Bethany College 77-72 inside Holman Fieldhouse.

Storr pulled down 14 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end to pick up his second double-double in the last three games. He also finished with a team-high four steals.

Curtis Rose added 15 points, thanks to five free throws, and had nine rebounds and three assists. KJ Marshall matched Storr with seven offensive rebounds and grabbed five on the defensive end.

MC never trailed in the contest, racing out to 21-9 over the first ten minutes of the game, then taking their largest lead of the contest three minutes later thanks to a fast break layup by Rose to push the Bulldogs to a 27-13 advantage.

However, the Swedes trimmed the lead to 36-29 at the break.

Bethany opened the second frame with a quick 6-2 run that included back-to-back baskets by Devin Spencer. However, the closest the Swedes would get would be one, but a jumper by Rose, and a layup by Storr kept Bethany at bay.

The Bulldogs had their way inside from start to finish, scoring 20 of their 36 first-half points in the lane. MC finished the contest with 42 points in the paint. The Bulldogs outrebounded Bethany 55-32 with a 21-9 advantage on the offensive end.

The Swedes forced McPherson into a season-high 17 turnovers, but were only able to turn them into 14 points. Bethany also held the Bulldogs to their lowest three-point percentage of the season, as the Bulldogs connected on just two of their 15 attempts (13.3 percent).

MC will be back in action for the final time before the holidays, traveling to Wichita to take on Friends University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
