Bulldogs Split with (23) Ottawa

OTTAWA, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs picked up a huge 2-1 win over the No. 23-ranked Ottawa University Braves in game one, before falling in the nightcap in Ottawa, Kan.

GAME ONE – MC 2, OU 1

Jordyn Johnson got the start in the circle for the Bulldogs and struck out ten batters, while allowing just one run on four hits. Johnson held the Braves to just one hit through the first three innings.

The Bulldogs grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Megan Wright singled to right field, bringing Andrea Solis around to score.

That score would hold until the bottom of the fifth when the Braves knotted the score on an RBI single by Addison Spencer.

Neither team was able to score over the next two frames, forcing extra time. In the top of the ninth, the Bulldogs benefitted from an error by the Braves second baseman, allowing Kaitlyn Sarsfield to score the go-ahead run.

Johnson finished off the game, striking out Rachel Pederson to give the Bulldogs the massive win.

The Bulldogs had baserunners all game, finishing with eight hits. Tatyana Alvarado, Alexandrea Garcia, and Wright each recorded two hits.

GAME TWO – OU 13, MC 0

In the nightcap, the Braves responded by scoring four runs in the second, three in the third, and six in the fourth to grab the 13-0 win.

MC was held to just three hits, while the Braves finished with 12 hits and benefitted from a pair of Bulldog errors.

Alvarado, Rowdy New, and Shey Storesund each had one hit for MC.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday (Mar. 20), playing host to York University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
