McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs wrapped up their mid-week series with Ottawa Wednesday (Mar. 27) by knocking off the Braves 5-4 at Bulldog Park.
Both teams used eight pitchers apiece, with no hurler throwing more than 2.2 innings. Ethan Alexander picked up the win for the Bulldogs, striking out a pair while allowing four hits.
The MC pitchers held the Braves hitless through the first five innings, while the Bulldogs mounted a quick 2-0 lead. Hayden Foster continued his red-hot streak, putting the Bulldogs on the board in the bottom of the second with a RBI single that scored Jorge Olivo and Jace Essig.
A two-run blast by Essig in the sixth pushed the Bulldogs lead to 4-0, but the Braves cut the lead in half in the next half inning. OU loaded the bases before Tyler Farnham was hit by a pitch. Then Nicholas Sizemore singled to centerfield to make it a 4-2 Bulldog lead.
Another RBI single by Blaine Thomas brought the Braves within 4-3 in the eighth, then OU tied the game in the ninth on a single by Dylan Garcia.
But the Bulldogs didn't quit, loading the bases thanks to a single down the right field line by Foster followed by a pair of walks by Peyton Starr and Colin Evers. Kai Torres came to the plate and drew a walk, bringing Foster home to score and giving the Bulldogs the victory.
Essig finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while Foster added two hits with two RBIs, and Starr finished with two hits. Francisco Paradis struck out three batters in two innings of work.
