SALINA, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs dropped a pair of KCAC games Tuesday (Apr. 9), falling to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in Salina, Kan.
GAME ONE – Kansas Wesleyan 1, McPherson 0
Ashanti Thompson pitched a gem in the opener, throwing six innings while allowing just one run on five hits.
However, the Bulldog offense was held to just two baserunners and no runs scored.
The lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Coyotes loaded the bases before Ollievia Lowe drew the walk.
Thompson and Kaitlyn Sarsfield were the lone Bulldogs with a hit.
GAME TWO – Kansas Wesleyan 3, McPherson 0 (8 innings)
The nightcap saw an offensive explosion, comparatively, but not until the eighth inning.
MC grabbed their first lead of the day when Tatyana Alvarado reached on an error by the Coyotes third baseman, allowing Alicia Pompa to come around to score. Then Rowdy New pushed the Bulldog lead to 2-0, with a foul out to the first baseman, driving in Alvarado.
However, from there the Coyotes walked it off after an RBI double by Sydnee Fordham followed by a single by Josie Buhr.
MC finished with two runs on four hits, and benefitted from a pair of Kansas Wesleyan errors.
New, Sarsfield, Carissa Peters, and Alivia Lange each had one hit for the Bulldogs. Samantha Hollingsworth got the start for the Bulldogs in game one, and threw 5.1 innings with four strikeouts.
The Bulldogs make the trek to Springfield, Mo., to take on Evangel University on Saturday (Apr. 13). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
