OTTAWA, Kan. - It was a milestone day for the Bulldogs as head coach Cory Cahill won his 99th and 100th career wins as the head coach for MC volleyball as the team swept both contests on their final day in Ottawa.
Game One- No. 25 McPherson-3, Dickinson State-0
McPherson would fall behind 2-1 in the very early stages of set one, but that would be the only lead the Blue Hawks would hold. MC would storm back, riding the momentum to a 14-7 lead. DSU would only score three more rally points in the set as MC would roll to a 25-10 win in set one.
Six of the first seven rally points in set two would be scored by the Bulldogs, forcing the Blue Hawks to call a timeout to try and slow the game down. MC would stretch the lead up to 17-7 before Dickinson State started to make things interesting, scoring five straight rally points to slim the lead to 17-12. The late effort would not be fruitful as the Bulldogs put their foot down and won the set, 25-15.
The two teams would trade points early on in set three, but six straight rally points scored by MC would steal away any chances for a Dickinson State comeback as the Bulldogs cruised to another 25-15 set win and a 3-0 match sweep was secured for MC.
Hadley Waldren led the Bulldogs in kills, recording 12 in the match. Raegan Murphy, the reigning KCAC setter of the week, once again made her mark by recording 32 of the team's 41 assists in the match.
Game Two- No. 25 McPherson-3, Hannibal-Lagrange-0
Set one was nothing short of dominant for the Bulldogs as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back, scoring 16 of the first 18 rally points in the set. MC would not let off the gas and cruised to a 25-8 win to take a 1-0 match lead.
MC would come out hot once again in set two, jumping out to a 16-5 lead, and looked like they were going to run away with the set. The Trojans had no plans of letting that happen as they stormed back to make it 18-16, but it would not be enough as MC got the 25-17 win in the set.
A quick 3-0 lead generated by the Bulldogs would start set three off, but the Trojans would hang around, going on a small run of four straight rally points to make it a 14-11 MC lead. As quickly as the small run began, it ended as the Bulldogs finished the set by scoring the final six rally points to win it 25-15 and secure win number 100 for Coach Cahill.
The trio of Daniela Jimenez, Brooke McHale, and Waldren all recorded eight kills, and Raegan Murphy once again shined by leading the Bulldogs with four blocks and 22 of the 30 recorded assists.
MC is back in action on Saturday, September 21 as they open KCAC play on the road against Oklahoma Wesleyan.
