McPHERSON, Kan. — Despite taking the first set, the Bulldogs were defeated for the first time at home this year by the Nelson University Lions in four sets on Friday (Sep 27).
Set one was all MC as the Bulldogs generated an early lead, snuffed out any attempt by the Lions to close the gap, and won the set 25-20.
The momentum shifted from that point on as the Lions took and maintained complete control of the contest as Nelson only found themselves trailing twice throughout the rest of the entire contest. Nelson went on a tear in set two, taking an 11-1 lead and never looking back, winning the set 25-16 as the Bulldogs were held to a .073 attack percentage in the set.
McPherson kept the third set interesting, coming back from a 10-4 deficit to tie things up at 14. The two sides traded rally points until the Lions scored the final three rally points to secure a 25-21 set win. MC was once again kept below a .100 attack percentage, recording a .045 attack percentage in the third set.
Set four once again saw the Bulldogs being unable to sway the momentum, going down by as much as 10 and being held to a .057 attack percentage. The Lions won the fourth set 25-14 and won the match 3-1.
Daniela Jimenez and Luisina Sandron tied for the team lead in kills with eight as
Raegan Murphy recorded 10 assists in the match.
McPherson hits the road for their next matchup against the Sterling Warriors on October 2. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
