SIOUX CITY, Neb. – The McPherson College men's tennis team split a pair of matches over the weekend, falling to Morningside 7-0 before knocking off Mount Marty 5-2.
The Bulldogs are now 3-2 on the season.
Against Morningside,
Celien Botlan and Oscar Brower pushed their opponents at the number one spot to the brink before falling 7-6 (7-1). In singles action,
Texas Ranger Schmidt split the first two sets with Jesse Gerth. He won the first frame 7-5 before falling 6-2 in the second stanza.
Arthur Nardy dropped a hard-fought 7-6, 7-5 (6-1) contest at the top spot. Brouwer played a solid match at the number two position. However, he suffered a 6-4, 6-3 defeat. Botlan played his foe tight at the number three slot before falling 6-3, 6-3.
Against Mount Marty, the tandem of Botlan and Brouwer notched a 6-1 victory at the number one spot. Second-seeded Nardy and
Jayson Wasserfuhr accounted for a 6-3 win. Schmidt and
Balazs Temesvari garnered a 6-3 victory at the number three position. In singles action, Nardy picked up where he left off in doubles play, claiming a 6-3, 6-0 win at the top spot. Brouwer had some trouble in the first set, but prevailed with a score of 7-6, 6-2 at number one.
Botlan, playing at the number three slot, registered a 6-4, 6-2 decision. At the number five spot, Temesvari lost the first set, but bounced back to claim the win by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.
The Bulldogs return to action Sunday, March 2, when they host Midland University at 11 a.m.
