MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson College women's tennis team opened the home portion of their season with a 7-0 victory over Colorado State University Pueblo Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Tennis Center in McPherson, Kan.
The Bulldogs move to 4-2 on the season.
In doubles action, second-seeded
Taimi Nashiku and
Laureen Van Drunen opened the day with a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot. Third-seeded
Bella Ellerbee and
Pia Hinricher combined for a 6-3 victory, securing the point for the home team.
Alexandria Garcia and
Vanessa Hofer fought off their foe at the No. 1 doubles spot, picking up a 6-4 win.
Hinricher gave McPherson College a 2-0 edge with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 singles position.
Ava Bolin cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 slot, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Van Drunen, competing at No. 4 singles, garnered a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot.
With the overall win in hand, Garcia registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. After Nashiku posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 3 position, the only Bulldog still competing was Hofer at the top spot.
Hofer lost the first set 6-3 and trailed 4-3 in the second stanza. However, Hofer rebounded to take the second set 6-4. She posted a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker, helping the home squad complete the 7-0 victory.
The Bulldogs return to action Sunday when they host Midland University at 11 a.m.
