Evers Extends Hit Streak, Baseball Takes Down Bethany In Series Opener

LINDSBORG, Kan. Colin Evers continues to absolutely rake in the 2025 campaign as he extended his hit streak to 15 games and the Bulldogs only needed seven innings to secure a conference road win over the Bethany College Swedes on Friday (Mar. 21).

Looking to follow up an RBI double by Colt Sussex-Uphold to give the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead in the top half of the fifth inning, Evers came up to the plate and wasted no time opening the floodgates as he launched the very first pitch of his at-bat way out of the park for a two run homerun. The longball extends his hit streak to 15 straight games, moving him closer to Jake Pearson's record of 19 straight games with a base hit back in 2022.

The Swedes were the first team to strike and did so in the bottom of the first inning as an RBI double acted as the high point of what ended up being a quick 3-0 for Bethany. It didn't take long for the Bulldogs to answer right back with four runs of their own as Jace Essig pushed across the first pair of runs for MC. Essig was quickly brought in thanks to a Sussex-Uphold triple to tie the game up at three runs. Dawson Walters, the hero from the last game against Ottawa, came up big again as he gave MC the lead off an RBI single. A wild pitch in the bottom half of the second inning tied the game up once again as neither team had been able to create any separation in the first half of the contest.

The equilibrium between the two sides completely changed in the fourth inning as the Bulldogs scored five runs, highlighted by a two run homerun by Evers gave MC a 9-4 lead. This big inning served as the starting point for what turned into a 13-1 run differential in favor of the Bulldogs throughout the rest of the game.

The final blows came in the top half of the seventh inning of play where the Bulldogs scored eight runs, capped off by a monster homerun by Walters to make it a 17-5 lead for MC. The Swedes were unable to score the three runs necessary to extend the game any further as the Bulldogs completed the run rule requirements and took game one of the series.

Games two and three of the series against Bethany will be played tomorrow, March 21 with the first pitch of game one being set at 12:00 p.m. with game two kicking off 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
