McPHERSON, Kan. — For the second straight conference series, the Bulldogs were unable to secure a victory in the third game after splitting the double header as they fell to the Coyotes on Sunday (Mar. 9), 12-5.
The runs were coming early and often for both sides as the Bulldogs and the Coyotes scored a combined six runs in the first two innings. Kansas Wesleyan struck first in the top half of the first innings with an RBI single, but the Bulldogs came right back at the visitors with two runs in the bottom of the first as
Dawson Walters and Collin Evers both secured RBI singles to make it a 2-1 lead for MC. It ended up being a short lived lead as the Coyotes struck right back in the top of the second inning with a fielder's choice and a bases loaded walk allowed KWU to retake the lead. The Bulldogs caught a big break with the bases loaded as due to interference from the catcher scored a run to tie the game right back up.
This run scored from a Kansas Wesleyan mistake served as the last run the Bulldogs scored until the late stages of the game. The Coyotes did not have the same offensive issues as they scored six unanswered runs from the top of the third inning all the way until the eighth inning as KWU took a 9-3 lead into the latter stages of the contest.
The Bulldogs were able to load the bases in the bottom of the eighth and cut into the lead off a wild pitch that allowed
Jace Essig to score and a RBi single by
Colt Sussex-Uphold cut the lead to 9-5. The Coyotes immediately pushed the lead back out with a three run top half of the ninth inning and were able to keep a lid on the MC offense as they secured the series win.
The Bulldogs hit the road for a midweek battle as they face off with the Ottawa Braves on Tuesday, March 11 for a quick single game matchup. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
