OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Bulldogs found themselves on the wrong end of a mid-week clash against a nationally ranked opponent on Tuesday (Apr. 1) as they fell to the MACU Evangels, 13-3.
After a scoreless first inning of play, the Evangels got things rolling first as a fielding error and a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the second inning gave MACU a 2-0 lead. Things kept rolling for the Evangels in the third as a solo homerun deep into right field made it a three run game after the first three innings of play. The Bulldogs, who have been no strangers to giving nationally ranked foes all they can handle this year, were not going to go down without putting up a fight.
Jared Kramp got MC on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI double to bring home
Braden Schiffner to make it a 3-1 game.
Jace Essig, coming off an incredible series against Avila, scored an RBI off a sacrifice fly and Kramp came around to score off a wild pitch. The game was now all tied up at three runs apiece heading into the middle frames of the game.
The tide of the contest completely shifted in the bottom half of the fifth inning as the Evangels pushed across seven runs, highlighted by a long two run homerun and a throwing error by the Bulldogs that scored two more runs. MACU continued to add on in the sixth with three more runs scoring off a pair of RBI singles as the game went from all tied up to completely blown open. The Bulldogs were unable to push across a run in the top half of the seventh, securing a run rule victory for the Evangels.
The Bulldogs return to Bulldog Park and KCAC play on Saturday, April 5 as they kick off a three game series against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m.
