Box Score 2 McPHERSON, Kan. — A true offensive showcase from both sides unfortunately ended in a pair of losses for the Bulldogs as they dropped both game of a double header against the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday (Apr. 12).
GAME ONE- No. 11 Oklahoma Wesleyan-21 McPherson-14
It was an absolutely scorching hot start for the Eagles as they pushed across the game's first 10 runs. The first four came across in the second inning, the highlights being an RBI triple that scored the game's first run and a long two run homerun to cap off the inning. The Eagles pushed across the additional six runs in the third thanks in large part to two more homeruns, one of which being a three run shot as OKWU looked to be in complete control early on.
Colt Sussex-Uphold was the guy who cracked the scoreboard for MC in the bottom half of the third with a two RBI double to cut the lead to eight, but the Eagles struck right back in the fourth with four more runs to make it a 14-2 game.
Jace Essig continued his hot streak with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, but another OKWU two run homerun made it a 16-3 game halfway through five innings.
The bats for MC finally started to really heat up in the middle innings as the Bulldogs scored nine unanswered runs, seven of which came off of homeruns as
Peyton Starr,
Dawson Walters,
Jared Kramp,
Colin Evers, and Essig all sent baseballs out of the park as it was a 16-12 lead for OKWU heading to the eighth. Walters was able to send another two run homerun out in the bottom half of the eighth, but the Eagles pushed five more runs across the final two innings to secure a 21-14 win.
GAME TWO- No. 11 Oklahoma Wesleyan-25 McPherson-12
It was nothing but fireworks from the very beginning for both sides as a combined 15 runs were scored in just the first inning alone. The Eagles scored 10 of those runs as bagged three runs through RBI base hits and pushed across the rest via the home run ball. The Bulldogs struck back and let OKWU know they weren't going down without a fight as
Marcus Patton secured an RBI single and
Colin Evers mashed a grand slam to make it a 10-5 game in favor of the Eagles.
Neither team could be stopped offensively as the two squads continued to mash baseballs all over the park. The two teams combined for seven more homeruns throughout the rest of the contest and additional extra base hits that scored runs.
Jace Essig and
Dawson Walters both blasted two run homeruns to try and chip away at the lead, but the Eagles continued to hit the ball well and did so with multiple runners on base as the Eagles bagged another high scoring win over the Bulldogs and secured a three game sweep.
This is just the second time this year MC has been swept in a three game series as the only other team to do so is the top ranked team in the country, the undefeated LSU Shreveport Pilots who hold a 40-0 record this year.
The Bulldogs will play against their final non-conference opponent of the year when they play host to the Mid-America Christian Evangels, who come into the contest the No. 20 team in the country, on Tuesday, April 12. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
