McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs hosted the No. 21-ranked Evangel University Valor Saturday but fell in a pair of conference bouts 11-2 and 18-3 at Bulldog Park.
GAME ONE – Evangel 11, McPherson 2
The Valor wasted no time putting runs on the board, getting a three-run homer from Ellie Facklam in the top of the first inning. Evangel tacked on four more in the second thanks to a single and a double.
MC broke through in the bottom of the third when Victoria Thornton singled home Layla Towner, but the Valor responded with a two-run blast by Naomi Perkins.
Melaney Granados brought in the game's final run, scoring Thornton on a grounder to second base.
The Bulldogs were held to just two runs on four hits, led by Savannah Robles with two. All four of MC's hits were singles.
GAME TWO – Evangel 18, McPherson 3
The second half of the doubleheader started much like the first as the Valor raced out to an early lead. The Valor scored six in the first, and four more in the second to grab a 10-0 advantage.
MC had an answer in the bottom of the second, loading the bases thanks to a pair of pitches that hit Sidney Larrew and Towner. Anna Salazar brought in the Bulldogs' first run, drawing a walk to score Larrew, then Robles reached on an error by the left fielder, allowing Towner and Madison Jarvis to score.
Unfortunately, those were the lone Bulldog runs of the game.
The Valor, however, added five more in the fourth, then tacked on a three-run homer by Facklam in the fifth.
