Men's Tennis Sweeps Tabor, Takes Down Evangel

McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College men's tennis team posted a resounding 7-0 victory at Tabor College Monday, then followed that with a solid 6-1 win over Evangel University on Wednesday. 

MONDAY – McPherson 7, Tabor 0 

The Bulldogs team took an early 1-0 lead after cruising to three doubles wins. Texas Ranger Schmidt and Jayson Wasserfuhr combined for a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot. Top-seeded Oscar Brouwer and Celien Botlan notched a 6-4 win, securing the point. Simon Delgadillo and Arthur Nardy accounted for a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. 

McPherson College didn't waste much time jumping out to a 2-0 advantage. Wasserfuhr posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position. Delgadillo accounted for a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 slot. 

Brouwer, playing at the No. 1 position, registered a 6-1, 6-3 win, securing the team win. Botlan needed some extra time to knock off his foe at No. 2, but he managed to snag a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) win. 

Ayden Johnson posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 6 spot while Schmidt finished off the home team with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5. 

The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday when they host Evangel at 12 p.m. 

WEDNESDAY – McPherson 6, Evangel 1 

Celien Botlan and Oscar Brouwer combined for a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot. Simon Delgadillo and Arthur Nardy notched a resounding 6-1 win at the No. 2 slot. Walker Texas Ranger and Jayson Wasserfuhr accounted for a 7-6 (8-6) victory at the No. 3 position, securing the 1-0 lead. 

Nardy needed three sets to knock off his foe by a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles spot. Up 2-1, Wasserfuhr garnered a 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 victory at No. 3. 

Delgadillo secured the overall win with a come-from-behind win at No. 4. After falling 7-5 in the opening set, he bounced back to register a 6-1, 10-6 victory. 

Balazs Temesvari snagged a 6-1, 7-5 win at the No. 5 position while Brouwer took down his opponent by a score of 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2. 

The Bulldogs return to action Monday when they host Sterling College at 3 p.m.
