Baseball Uses High Power Offense To Secure Series Win Over Sterling

McPHERSON, Kan. — The Bulldogs flashed their potential as a unit on Sunday (Apr. 27) as they secured a doubleheader sweep of the Sterling College Warriors to close out the 2025 regular season and generate strong momentum heading into the upcoming KCAC tournament.

GAME ONE: McPherson-25 Sterling-1

Jared Kramp kickstarted what turned into a phenomenal day for him and his Bulldogs with a bang as he launched a two run homerun over the right field wall to quickly give MC, playing as the road team, the 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. Sterling quickly got one of those runs back thanks to a sacrifice fly as after one inning, it was a 2-1 lead for MC.

That one run was all Sterling was able to score in the contest. The Bulldogs, however, did not have those same issues as they pushed across at least one run in every inning of what was a seven inning game. From the second inning on, MC scored a staggering 23 unanswered runs as the bats were scorching hot. In the second inning, Kramp once again blasted a ball over the right field wall as he pushed across three more runs to push the lead out to 6-1. Things kept rolling in the third as the Bulldogs scored nine of their runs in its top half, highlighted by a Marcus Patton three RBI triple as MC ended the third with a 15-1 lead.

Kramp continued to mash the baseball as he once again sent a two run homerun over the right field all in the top half of the fourth inning. Kramp's three homer game ties him for the most in a single game in MC baseball history. The two run shot served as the final homerun for the Bulldogs in game one, but the runs didn't stop coming as MC began to get the runs via small ball as RBI base hits from Patton, Jace Essig, and Jameson Caro secured one of the most dominant showings from the Bulldogs in program history.

GAME TWO: McPherson-8 Sterling-2

Peyton Starr was the man to kickstart the scoring for the Bulldogs in game two as he bagged a two run RBI double in the top half of the first inning to get MC up 1-0 early on. Jace Essig added to the hot start in the third as he launched a long solo homerun into left field to make it 3-0 heading into the middle innings.

The baseballs continued to fly for the Bulldogs as Marcus Patton took the first pitch he saw in his at-bat in the fourth inning deep to make it 4-0 Bulldogs. The dominant start continued for MC as a throwing error allowed Koen Gakstatter to score and an Essig RBI single brought home another run to make it 6-0 MC after four innings.

Sterling started to show some life in the bottom half of the fourth as they pushed across a pair of runs to cut into the deficit, but a two run homerun by Patton in the fifth sealed the deal as MC secured the series win after dropping the first game of the series.

The Bulldogs finish the regular season with an overall record of 26-24 with a 20-16 mark in KCAC play. The attention now turns to the KCAC tournament which starts on Wednesday, April 30.
