Sullivan Finds Decider in 71st Minute for 1-0 Victory over Central Christian

McPherson, Kan – The Bulldogs and the Tigers of Central Christian College squared off in the Collegiate Cup last night in front of a lively crowd. Due to the weather the day prior, Central Christian would host the Bulldogs at Paul Family Field under the lights. Both sides looked to find their first win of the year after suffering tough losses in the early goings of their respective campaigns.

How it Happened
The fans throughout the night were heavily involved in the match, having just watched the women's match 30 minutes prior to the men's kickoff, ending in a 0-0 draw. The first half of this matchup entailed a handful of threatening shots from each team, but neither side truly made the goalkeeper go to work in the early going. Just before the end of the half in the 40th minute, a yellow card was given to Central Christian's Spencer Berger. The teams would head into the halftime break level at 0-0.

More of the same style of play would follow into the second half of action. In the 71st minute, it would be Zane Sullivan's heat-seeking missile from nearly 30 yards out that found the top-right corner of the net to take the 1-0 advantage. Shortly after, a red card was shown to Central Christian's Liam Harris, putting the Bulldogs in the driver's seat for the remainder of the match with the extra man on the field.

The Tigers' final shot of the match came from Joel Romero in the 77th minute that would miss high of the crossbar. McPherson played well defensively for the final 13 minutes of play, allowing them to secure the 1-0 victory for their first win of the season.

Up Next
Following the victory, the Bulldogs will face the Doane Tigers this Saturday for their next matchup at McPherson Stadium on September 13th. This will be the first day-time match of the year for the Bulldogs with kickoff set for 2:00 PM.
