McPherson, Kansas – The McPherson College Women's Basketball team is looking to build on last season's improvement for the 2026-27 season under second-year head coach Alex Moorehead.
Moorehead took the helm last season following a winless 2024-25 campaign, guiding the Bulldogs to an 8-20 overall record and 3-19 mark in KCAC play. McPherson also opened the season with five consecutive wins, marking the program's best start to a season in over 10 years.
"I am encouraged by the talent, depth, and competitiveness within this group, but we know that optimism alone will not produce results," says Moorehead. "We are bringing together several new players, so our progress will depend on how quickly we establish trust, accept roles, and develop reliable habits on both ends of the floor. I expect us to compete every night, improve throughout the season, and become increasingly difficult to play as our identity takes shape. Our goal is to play our most connected and disciplined basketball when the season demands it most."
Sophomore
Maizy Gillam is returning this season after a successful freshman campaign, where she led the Bulldogs in scoring at 13.4 ppg. Junior
Margaret Ajayi also returns to McPherson this season after leading the team in rebounding with 6.6 rpg. The Bulldogs will look to replace last season's assist and steals leaders, as
Olivia Bell averaged 3.0 apg and
Raeghan Borman recorded 1.9 spg in 2025-26.
McPherson opens the 2026-27 season on Friday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m. when they host Doane University at Jim's Appliances of Inman Court at the Holman Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs host Bethel College to begin KCAC play on Saturday, November 14 at 2:00 p.m.
All of McPherson's home games will be streamed on Urban Edge Network and KCAC Network. Season passes and single-game tickets for the 2026-27 season are available for purchase on macbulldogs.com.
