McPherson, Kan. – The Bulldogs opened their 2026 home slate on Sunday, hosting the Hastings College Broncos. McPherson entered the contest with a winning record after going 3-1 at the Branson B-A-S-H Classic, while Hastings sat at an even 2-2 after winning one game in each doubleheader they had against Avila and Bethel.

McPherson found themselves down early in Game One of the doubleheader, as the Broncos plated three runs in the top of the first inning.
Samantha Hollingsworth opened the second by walking the first two batters she faced, then hit the fourth batter to load the bases with one out recorded. A single from Hastings' Ana Medeiros drove in two runs which extended the Broncos lead to 5-0. Hastings added another run on a Bulldogs error at third base; a two-RBI double from Jenna McClain capped the scoring for Hastings in the second, giving the Broncos an 8-0 advantage.
Sidney Larrew recorded McPherson's first and only hit of the game to open the bottom of the third, sending the ball through the left side of the infield and reaching second. Despite having a runner on a bag, the Bulldogs were unable to drive in any runs.
Hastings put the exclamation point on Game One in the fourth inning as Katyn Kappler drove home two more runs, picking up her first two RBIs of the day. McPherson was unable to find a response, dropping Game One 10-0 in five innings.
Game Two: MC 3, HC 7
The second game was a much different start for the Bulldogs as pitcher
Landri Lopez retired five of the first six batters she faced and allowed no runs. Hastings opened the scoring in the third inning, sending one run home on a single from Kappler. Another RBI-single from the Broncos in the fourth doubled their lead to 2-0.
McPherson responded in the bottom of the fifth as
Victoria Thornton singled through the left side to drive in
Justice Large.
Savannah Robles then tied the game for the Bulldogs after scoring on a passed ball by the Broncos' catcher. McPherson took their first lead on the day on a sacrifice fly to right field from
Layla Towner, bringing Thornton home.
Hastings wouldn't trail behind for long as Lauren Lee sent one over the left field fence to open the sixth inning, tying the game at 3-3. Hastings' third RBI-single of the contest drove home two more runs, giving the Broncos their second lead of the game. Kappler rounded out Hastings' four-run inning with her second RBI, stretching the Broncos' advantage to 6-3.
A seventh run for the Broncos in the seventh inning secured the win for Hastings and the series sweep over McPherson.

McPherson will travel to Olathe, Kansas on Saturday for a two-game series with MidAmerica Nazarene University. The first game of the doubleheader will be at 1:00 PM.
