Box Score 1 McPherson, Kan. – The Bulldogs were on the road for the final week of the regular season to take on the Bethel College Threshers and the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. All three teams looked to close out their seasons on a high note, fighting for the top spot in the KCAC.
Monday April 13th vs. Bethel College: MC 1, BC 6
McPherson opened their day in North Newton dropping the doubles point, despite a strong showing from
Laureen Van Drunen and
Vanessa Hofer who picked up the Bulldogs' lone doubles win at the #2 spot.
Bethel carried their momentum into singles play, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead with a straight-set win at #1 Doubles.
Taimi Nashiku provided a bright spot for McPherson, securing the Bulldogs' only point of the day at the #2 spot winning both sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
Bella Ellerbee followed in the singles lineup, battling through her match but dropping both sets 6-3, 6-2. Bethel officially clinched the team win following the #4 Singles match after Grace Dawes won both sets 6-2 and 6-3.
The Threshers rounded out the day with wins at the #5 and #6 Singles.
Maria Luisa de Lama showed some fight after dropping her first set, pushing the second into a tiebreak before falling 7-3, while
Eva Lesteluhu dropped both sets 6-2 to close out the matchup.
Wednesday April 15th vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan University: MC 1, OWU 4
Due to weather, McPherson and Oklahoma Wesleyan played a shortened matchup for a clinched victory, with the Eagles striking first by taking the doubles point behind wins at #2 and #3.
Oklahoma Wesleyan kept the pressure on in singles, extending their lead to 3-0, with victories at #1 and #3. Ellerbee came out strong at #3 Singles, grabbing the opening set 6-2, but couldn't hold off the comeback, dropping the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.
Nashiku grabbed the Bulldogs lone point of the match at #2 Singles, bouncing back after a 6-4 first-set loss to take the next two sets 6-2 and 6-4.
The Eagles sealed the deal at #5 Singles, with a 6-2, 6-3 win, locking in a 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs.
