McPherson, Kan – The Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season this week ahead of the KCAC Men's Tennis Championships. On Monday, they took on the Bethel Threshers followed by a Wednesday matchup with the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan; two tough tests for McPherson on the road.
The Threshers were firing on all cylinders at home, earning the 6-1 victory over the Bulldogs. McPherson managed to find two wins on the day in the #3 Doubles match with
Texas Ranger Schmidt and
Balazs Temesvari.
Arthur Nardy found the second win of the day with a win in the #1 Singles match; after a tough opening set one victory in a tiebreak, Nardy rolled in set two with a 6-1 victory.
Aside from McPherson's two victories, the Threshers had their way on their own courts. There were numerous sets that came down to tiebreakers throughout the day, but Bethel College earned the 6-1 victory.
In their eventful Wednesday match with Eagles, the Bulldogs pulled out the 4-3 victory on the road despite dealing with a seemingly endless weather delay. This match wouldn't be completed until 12:30 AM making it for a long, but joyful, ride home for the men.
Jayson Wasserfuhr and Bruno Barrientos earned the win in the #2 Doubles match while Temesvari and Schmidt won their second doubles match of the year on the #3 court to secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs.
Wasserfuhr found his second victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 dominant win in the #2 Singles.
Hamish Wyatt managed to pull out a 2-1 victory in the #4 Singles match, winning the match in a third set played to 10 by way of 10-7 in favor of the Australian. Temesvari won in similar fashion in the #5 Singles match in a 10-point tiebreaker third set, finding himself on top 10-6 after all was said and done.
With the regular season finished, the Bulldogs enter the KCAC Tournament as the #3 seed in the bracket. They'll take on the Ottawa University Braves in the Quarterfinals this Thursday on April 23
rd. Bethany College will be hosting the tournament in Lindsborg, Kansas.
