Substance Abuse Education and Testing Eligibility

A. All Student-Athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics at McPherson College are required to participate in the Substance Abuse Program. “Student-athlete” shall be defined as any student on an athletic team roster, regardless of eligibility status.

B. Student-athletes are eligible to participate in the Substance Abuse Program from first day of athletic participation to last day of active intercollegiate participation at McPherson College. Student-athletes that have exhausted athletic eligibility, as well as student-athletes who have completed their athletic tenure during the current academic year (yet remain students), will not be included in the Substance Abuse Program unless otherwise noted due to ongoing illegal or improper substance abuse concerns.

C. All student-athletes will be given an overview presented by athletic department staff regarding the Substance Abuse Program and disciplinary consequences of violations.

D. All student-athletes will be required to sign the McPherson College Drug Testing Consent Form. No athletic participation will be allowed until the consent form is reviewed and signed.

E. All student-athletes will be informed of the opportunity to view the policy in its entirety, as it will be posted on the McPherson College Athletics webpage (www.macbulldogs.com) for public viewing.

F. If a student-athlete is under the age of 18 at the time of first day of school, a parental signature will be required prior to participation.

G. The McPherson College Department of Athletics reserves the right to host required substance abuse educational seminars provided by various experts in the field of substance use education. These events are required.  All student-athletes not attending these presentations will be deemed ineligible for any participation until such time that they view the presentation on video, or serve an appropriate disciplinary plan as determined by the Substance Abuse Committee.  

H. All coaches are responsible for being knowledgeable of the policies and procedures, as well as notifying recruits and incoming signees of the Substance Abuse Program.
