The objectives of the Substance Abuse Program, which includes education, screening, counseling, and disciplinary actions, include, but are not limited to:

To promote health, academic, and athletic progress of all student-athletes at McPherson College.

To encourage our student-athletes to develop healthy, responsible lifestyles.

To discourage any illegal or improper drug use by student-athletes at McPherson College.

To provide a means for a student-athlete who displays signs of illegal or improper drug use to become drug-free.

To develop and maintain a screening program designed to serve both as a deterrent to and as a method of detecting possible substance abuse.

To identify any chronic dependency upon an illegal drug and assist in proper treatment to the fullest extent of our resources.

To confirm that each student-athlete is medically competent to participate in intercollegiate athletics.

To enable guidance, counseling, and treatment to student-athletes who test positive for, or display signs of, illegal or improper drug use by referring them to the appropriate medical professional.

To enable McPherson College student-athletes to accept the responsibilities and consequences of the Substance Abuse Program.
